CGS has provided many 3D designs for both land and marine projects. We pride ourselves on our ability to work with the Project Geophysicists to design a survey that does two things.

  1. Image ALL of the targets specified by the Project . Geophysicist. Compromising whenever necessary when those targets are far apart.
  2. Adds value to the company by producing an “on the shelf” asset that has value for the company for a minimum of 5 years.

Our experience over the last 10  years has shown that in many cases at the start of the project there are many unknowns and that “wishes and desires” change as budgets and the cost of seismic  fluctuate.

We see a 3D design report as a changing,  living, almost interactive document  that  aids the project geophysicist and the eventual seismic contractor to come to the best deal possible. Only when the seismic is about to be shot is the report finalised. In some cases comparisons with the pre-plot to the actual shooting is added as an appendix.

As of early 2009 our current philosophy is to encourage clients on land towards full azimuth templates –  we have designed, managed and processed <7 3D surveys within the last 3-4 years

In marine there is still a tendency to stick with narrow azimuth streamer data – but we are already seeing this change in difficult areas of West Africa, with Multi Azimuth (3) being particularly popular recently.
